Winter will be upon us before we know it, so beat the heat (or embrace the cold) and check out these awesome ice cream shops.

Grand Ole Creamery

A St. Paul establishment, the Grand Ole Creamery, has been serving up award-winning ice cream for 33 years. With 31 daily flavors, coming often is a must. They have expanded to Minneapolis and Roseville to better serve their fan base and added on a pizzeria. Grab a cone and a slice, to satisfy your sweet and salty tooth.

Lick’s Unlimited

Lick’s is a staple in Downtown Excelsior and just a block from Lake Minnetonka. It’s a kitschy little parlor serving a variety of flavors, using creamy Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream from Madison, Wisconsin. Be sure to try one of the fantastic waffle cones. The line can be long but don’t let that deter you—it goes fast. Then head on over and enjoy the beautiful lake.

Milkjam Creamery

A newer establishment joined the ice cream shop competition and it does not disappoint. Milkjam Creamery is a modern little shop, located a couple of blocks north of Lyn-Lake in Minneapolis. It’s a bit pricey but worth every penny. Unique flavor combinations with offbeat names, and a variety of vegan and gluten-free options, have people coming back time and time again.

Cold Front

Ice cream topped with espresso, what could be better? At Cold Front, you can get both and more. Located in St. Paul, this cozy spot is spilling with vintage charm. They serve up old-school favorites and modern fresh alternatives. In addition to ice cream, they serve the to-die-for Bootstrap coffee and take advantage of a unique soda fountain for fresh handcrafted sodas. Whatever your thirst needs—they have you covered. Thankfully, Minnesota has no shortage of ice cream shops, so make the rounds and try them all! (Due to Covid-19, many shops are opting for to-go and curbside service only, but it varies by location)
