5 Events to Welcome Spring in Minneapolis

If the nice weather and the longer daylight hours have got you ready to get out of the house, there are plenty of things to see and do in Minneapolis to welcome spring!

Vanishing Ice Art Exhibit at Weisman Art Museum

This exhibit is a fitting (if perhaps somber) way to say goodbye to winter. By showcasing the “beauty, significance, and vulnerability of Earth’s frozen lands,” this display asks viewers to consider their place in the larger ecosystem. Featuring nearly fifty works that span from 1860 to the present from three different ice-covered regions, this event promises to deliver a wide range of views and perspectives. See it at the Weisman Art Museum now through May 13.

Familiar at the Guthrie Theater

Watch this play about a Zimbabwean-American family in Minnesota dealing with family drama, identity, and cultural differences as their daughter prepares to marry a white man from Minnetonka. The play has a two and a half hour runtime and will be showing from March 10 through April 14. Tickets range from $15-50.

Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theater’s Annual MayDay Parade

Come see this inspiring and fun display of puppets, music performance, and street art. You won’t be alone as this event draws more than 50,000 participants! The family-friendly parade will run along Bloomington Avenue between 25th and 34th Streets. It starts at noon on Sunday, May 6.

Minneapolis-St. Paul International Film Festival

In its 37th year, the MSPIFF features more than 250 films from creators around the world. The main location is the St. Anthony Main Theater with other venues participating as well. The opening night film will be RBG, a documentary about the life of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. The event will be held from April 12-28, and general admission tickets start at just $14.

Towers of Tomorrow LEGO Exhibit

If you are looking for fun for the whole family, look no further than the Science Museum of Minnesota’s upcoming exhibit Towers of Tomorrow. In addition to getting to see some tremendous LEGO creations, participants will be able to build their own additions to a giant, communal structure.
