3 Reasons Your Dishwasher Stopped Mid-Cycle

When you start your dishwasher up, it starts just fine, but when you come back later it has failed to complete its wash cycle. If this is the case even if it does start again or doesn’t, you have a problem. If your dishwasher has quit mid-cycle, here are three possible reasons that you can investigate to try and solve it.

The Thermal Fuse Blew

The thermal fuse is installed in all heat-using appliances. The idea is if the appliance gets too hot, the fuse trips and cuts the power so a fire or other damage doesn’t happen. Unfortunately, once the fuse trips, it needs to be replaced. In some models, it may cut the power completely while in others it may only cut the power to the heating element. Regardless, this is a sign of a larger problem.

Door Latch Malfunction

The door latch on your dishwasher is meant to help create the seal. It keeps water from spraying out of the sides. However, if your dishwasher detects that your door latch is not latched, it will end the cycle. So if it rattled loose mid-cycle, then the cycle will be cut short.

Lack of Water Pressure

In order to proceed to the next cycle of the wash, your dishwasher will need adequate water pressure. You should initially check to make sure you still have running water to your house. Without it, the dishwasher wouldn’t be able to complete other cycles. However, if there is very low water pressure, it will not activate the correct parts in order to fill the appliance. If you have sudden low water pressure in the home, it is a sign of potentially other problems with your plumbing. The good news is it is may not be a problem with your dishwasher, the bad news is plumbing issues can be a bigger pain. Regardless, you will likely want professional help to troubleshoot the issue.
