If your Kenmore freezer isn’t making ice, it is not the end of the world, but you kind of want the icemaker you paid for to actually make ice. However, there are actually a few problems that can cause ice not to dispense, so it is important to know what to check.
Your first step should be to run a little bit of a diagnosis. Does the water dispenser work? Is there actually any ice being made?
If there is no ice made and no water being dispensed, your first culprit should be the actual water lines. If damaged, they can start leaking and affect the process. However, when there is no ice and no water, in most cases it will be because they actually have a kink in the line.
If the water line checks out, the next culprit should be the actual water valve. Like with the lines, if the valve malfunctions, you will get no water to the refrigerator at all. This means no water dispenses and no ice forms because there is no water. Sometimes faulty water inlet valves prevent water from entering, so it will need to be replaced.
If your refrigerator doesn’t make any ice, but it does dispense water, then it is not a problem with the line. However, it could still be a problem with the inlet valve. In this scenario, it could also be a malfunctioning ice maker. If the ice maker has gone bad, it could become clogged with frozen ice clumps or it could be receiving water just fine, but not actually turning it into ice.
The good news is that all of these parts are rather easy to access, check, and, if necessary, replace. So while not having ice isn’t a huge deal, it is one of those things that is easy for the average homeowner to fix as well, though a professional may be able to fix it faster.
