Haier Top Mounted Refrigerator Recall Information

Recall Information

Haier America and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a recall of some of their top mounted refrigerators on October 25, 2018, because a short circuit in one of the electrical components could result in a fire. In the three reported incidents,  smoke, fire and property damage has occurred, but there have been no injuries.

Affected Units

137,000 units from three of Haier’s top mounted refrigerator models are included in the recall. The model numbers listed on the recall notice are:

• HA10TG31SB
• HA10TG31SS
• HA10TG31SW

Similar Recalls

In 2010, Haier America recalled Black & Decker Chest Freezer models because of a possible fire hazard. The recall was expanded in the spring of 2013. In the fall of 2013, Viking recalled some of their Built-In Side by Side Refrigerator Freezers with In-door Dispensers because of a potential fire hazard.

Manufacturer’s Remedy

Haier America is offering two options to consumers with units involved in the recall.

1. A free in-home repair of the refrigerator unit
2. A $150 rebate on a new, qualified Haier refrigerator purchase
