Dryer Repair

There is a lot that can go wrong with a dryer, but the most common complaint is a breakdown in the dryer’s main purpose – it isn’t drying clothing anymore. If your dryer isn’t drying your clothes anymore, it is very clearly broken. However, as with anything that is broken, you can’t fix it if you don’t know what is going on. If your dryer is not drying clothes as it should be, you can check these common culprits.

Restricted Air Flow

Whether it is a clogged lint screen, a plugged vent, or a dryer vent hose full of lint, it means your clothes won’t dry. This should always be the first thing you check not only because it is easy for the homeowner to fix, but because it can be a serious fire hazard. You will also want to check for any kinks in the air hose that will also impact the dryer’s ability to dry effectively.

The Dryer Isn’t Turning

This one you will probably notice. A dryer needs to rotate the drum for the clothes to dry evenly. If the drum is not rotating, the clothes won’t dry. This can be caused by several problems. It could be a broken drive belt, or if the drum stops rotating mid-cycle, it could be an overheating motor.

Broken heating Element

If your dryer seems to be functioning normally but dries clothes at a snail’s pace, it is likely the dryer vent that is causing the issue. It’s either clogged with lint or the run of the vent is too long.

If the dryer is not heating at all, it could be something to do with the heating circuit like the heating element for an electric dryer.

Malfunctioning Thermostats

The dryer thermostats control how much heat to use. These are located inside the dryer near the heating element. If that is broken in one way or another, a dryer can’t function properly. This may cause it to put out no heat instead of what is actually needed.
