How to Replace the Wash Arm Mount on Your Whirlpool Dishwasher

After years of use, the wash arm mount, which is located on the bottom of your upper dishwasher rack, can crack causing the spray arm to hang loosely and not clean properly. Removing the broken mount on your Whirlpool dishwasher model WDF560SAFW and replacing it with a new part is a repair you can accomplish on your own.

How to Replace the Wash Arm Mount in Your Dishwasher

Before repairing your dishwasher either unplug it or turn it off at the circuit breaker. Wearing work gloves and safety goggles are highly recommended during any type of appliance repair.
  1. Open the dishwasher’s door and pull out the top dish rack. With a flat head screwdriver, depress the tab locking the rack stop in place, and pull the stop off the end of the rail. Repeat the procedure on the other side of the dishwasher rack. Now slide the rack out of the dishwasher and place it upside down on a flat work surface.
  2. Before you can access the wash arm mount, you must detach the supply tube from the spray arm support. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the single screw holding the tube in place. Once the screw is out, separate the supply tube from the dish rack.
  3. Lift the spray arm off the broken mount. Now that you’ve gained access to the wash arm mount, depress the two locking tabs securing it to the rack. At the same time, press down on the wash arm mount to release the hooks attaching it to the dish rack. Pull the old mount from the dishwasher rack and throw it out.
  4. In the middle of the dish rack, install the new wash arm mount. To do so, lock one side of the mount onto the rack and then squeeze the other side, and carefully force it down onto the wire. Once the mount is secure, reinstall the spray arm and the supply tube. After you have reattached the Phillips screw you removed earlier, slide the dish rack back into the dishwasher and install the rack stops onto the rails.
  5. Now that the repair is finished, shut your dishwasher’s door and plug-in your appliance.
